York’s Conservative councillors have continued to criticise Labour requiring residents to pre book a time slot at the tip, as three months in the council has released a heavily spun media document congratulating itself.
The council says there has been ‘strong resident satisfaction’ and quote 71% of people as being very satisfied, however a trip to the tip is not like a holiday – all people want to do is drop off their waste and it is incredible that nearly 30% of responders are not as happy as they could be with this basic service. The introduction of the booking system looks like yet another way for the council to make things easier for the council rather than for residents.
Conservative councillor Mike Nicholls said:
We continue to believe that the tip booking system does not make sense and we would reverse it. Without the booking system there would inevitably be some queues at busy times but this is true in many areas. People know when the busy times are and can avoid them, rather than having to take the trouble to plan their busy lives around something so trivial as when they get rid of waste.
