Wetherby Road roundabout upgrades begin today

Work started today, Monday 4 June, on the Wetherby Road roundabout upgrade, marking the start of a £38m programme to reduce congestion and journey times on York’s busy outer ring road.

City of York Council’s Conservative-led administration continues its £2.62 million rolling programme to replace aging traffic lights with work at the junction of Tadcaster Road and St Helen’s Road from Monday 30 April.

National media from sources including The Times, the Daily Telegraph and the Financial Times have reported on York’s pilot scheme which aims to ease traffic congestion through monitoring drivers’ mobile phone signals and relaying this information to “smart” traffic lights.
