Mayoral candidate Keane Duncan has pledged to step in to overturn bus cuts approved by City of York Council’s Labour leadership.

Keane said he will release funds to protect at-risk services in his first week if he is elected as York & North Yorkshire’s first elected Mayor.

At tonight’s City of York Council, the York Conservative Group will oppose the ruling Labour Group’s budget and Conservatives have also submitted an amendment, which if passed would put funds back into the frontline services that residents want.

York’s Conservative Group has condemned Labour proposals to downgrade the role of the city’s Lord Mayor in what they view as supposed financial savings that will in reality cost more in terms of not making full use of the important civic role.
